UPDATE! WKCTC has all the fun photos posted on the college's Facebook page, including this one of us with Bill Ford — his painting sold in the auction for $4,100! Look for the photos on Facebook, and I'll add a few here a bit later today. Super cute!
The Get Together Gals were so thrilled and flattered to be asked to serve as celebrity spotters during Tuesday night's Annual Gala Scholarship Auction, the big fundraiser for West Kentucky Community & Technical College.
It was held at Harrah's, with more than 350 fine folk and their checkbooks arriving for great food, drinky-boos and lots and lots of great silent and live auction items.
Our role was just to add a little sump'um sump'um different, and to make sure that, come live auction time, our eagle eyes helped the professional spotters — Chris Black, Larry Stovesand and Dale Perry — spot all the bidders. Auctioneers John D. Williams and Louis Michelson did a great job of keeping things moving along.
And, if I may say so, we GTGs, wearing our official fundraising red feather boas, had a great time working the room, inspiring some nice winning bids and, following Dale Perry's lead...
...jumping on chairs to get the auctioneers' attention. Shy, we are not.
We're excited to report that the event brought in a record-breaking $150,000+ for the college. Folks were very generous — and these fine folks above certainly went above and beyond. That's WKCTC CEO Barbara Veazey (LOVE HER) with Jim and Karen Marvin and Former Mayor Gerry and Dr. Wally Montgomery. The Marvins and Montgomerys EACH donated $30,000 — the Marvins adding to their existing scholarship endowment and the Montgomerys creating a new one for students in the college's allied health programs. A very nice anonymous friend of the college then gave each couple another $7,500 in matching funds toward their endowments.
That's some considerable bank, to be sure, and yet another reason why I love Paducah so much. So many folks around here could be packing up their $30,000 and their sunscreen and heading to The Bahamas for a nice long vacation. But instead (or maybe in addition to) they simply invest it back into the community. That's just awesome.
Congrats WKCTC and to everyone involved! Thanks for including the GTGs and our boas!
