Darlene Believes

I love Darlene Mazzone and that fab Paducah Life magazine. She and her staff do a lovely job, and I know how much she enjoys bringing each issue to us. Darlene is teaming up with another local favorite, WKMS, to encourage regional writers (hello Gabe Camacho and the Paducah Writers Group!) to submit a 500-word essay to NPR's This I Believe project. The idea is to write about your beliefs and values that guide you through life. If you're interested, go here to find out how to enter, and check out essays from those who've already submitted. Yours might be selected for broadcast on WKMS, for a community reading and for a national read on NPR. Plus, you'll be eligible for cash gift drawings in December. Darlene is thrilled for Paducah Life to sponsor the project, encouraging regional folks to make submissions and encouraging schools to adopt the program. "I have been totally enamored with the project since I discovered it a few years ago," Darlene says. "I immediately ordered the CD after hearing a few on NPR and still listen to them even though I've heard them many times over. They are funny, profound, emotional — a whole range of content and emotions. Is there anything more perfect for a local magazine to fund and support than the art of writing?"
