iList Paducah sponsor, the lovely and very funny Dr. Pamela Hodges, one of the best OB/GYNs in our area, is certainly an expert down there. But last weekend, she demonstrated an extra dose of heroics in the face of an extreme emergency.
She was visiting her children in Cincinnati and was flagged down by a pedestrian on a entrance ramp. A motorcycle accident had occurred only a moment before, and Dr. Hodges was the first on the scene. Without a moment's hesitation, she bolted from her daughter's car and proceeded to the unconscious man on the ground. She was able to keep his airway open until the emergency rescue came.
During the next 24 hours, Dr. Hodges kept in close contact with the hospital. Sadly, the gentleman passed on, but because of Dr. Hodges' quick action at the accident scene, his family was able to donate his organs — providing better lives to people in need.
"I was with Dr. Hodges and saw exactly how unselfish she was about giving medical care to this person," says the lovely Tina Cupertino. "He had blood coming from his head, and the other people around her did not even want to help her turn him over so she could keep his airway open. Although this man did not get the opportunity to survive, many people will survive because of his gift."
