Gayle Kaler Announces her Candidacy for Mayor

alt textCity Commissioner and LowerTown resident Gayle Kaler has announced her candidacy for Mayor of Paducah. From the press release she sent out this evening:

Biographical Summary

  • Currently serving third term on Paducah City Commission.
  • Served as Mayor Pro Tem for past two years.
  • Serves as board member on Paducah Water Works, Paducah Riverfront Development Authority, Barkley Regional Airport and Greater Paducah Sustainability Recycling, Chairman Paducah Monument Committee.
  • Member Fountain Avenue Methodist Church.
  • Business owner for 42 years.
  • Married for 15 years to Andy Kaler: Electrical Contractor.
  • Lives at 318 North 9th Street in Paducah.

Gayle Kayler’s Vision for Paducah

1. Establish Vibrant Downtown and Riverfront

  • Acquire Downtown convention hotel.
  • Complete Phase I of Shultz Park Improvement Plan.
  • Keep Riverfront loop from Broadway to Kentucky Avenue open to traffic.
  • Create and encourage sustainable urban development of our Downtown by increasing the Downtown residential population by 500 or more residents by 2016, thus lessening the risk of moving businesses downtown.
  • Support and encourage the growth of our arts community.


2. Quality of Life

  • Complete Greenway Trail and adopt a plan for a bicycling path with “Share the Road” signage on bicycle lanes adjacent to streets.
  • Establish curbside recycling within two years.
  • Create a Veteran’s Park to honor all Veterans. A park designed for quiet reflection where a tree shall be planted in honor of each Veteran who passes away.
  • Establish a first class “No Kill” Animal Shelter.
  • Work with City and County Schools, Churches, and local Clubs to create a Youth Leadership Council.


3. Neighborhood Revitalization

  • Continue to fund neighborhood restoration and development.
  • Prepare a Neighborhood Master Plan ranking neighborhood needs by housing and infrastructure condition.
  • Establish more neighborhood parks and gardens.


4. City Public Relations

  • Continue to work closely with our economic development partners to create jobs and promote population growth.
  • Continue to support our local Airport, River, Rail, Medical, Technical and Entrepreneurial Enterprises.
  • Develop and implement professional training for all City board members.
  • Enhance and improve the level of fiscal responsibility within City government.
