Check out this press release from the City of Paducah and nominate a veteran for this award!
Paducah Parks Services and the Veterans Day Planning Committee are accepting nominations for the 2011 Distinguished Veteran Award through October 14. The winner will be honored during Paducah’s annual Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11.
For the Distinguished Veteran Award, we are looking for candidates who currently reside in McCracken County and who continue to stay active and involved in their community. Anyone, male or female, who has served in any branch of the military may be nominated. Nomination forms are available in the Parks Office or online at www.paducahky.gov.
Each letter of nomination should state why the person deserves the honor and how their service has made a difference in the community. Details that are needed include the person’s name, gender, age, branch of military and dates of service, home address, place of employment, and how the person may be contacted. Information must also include the name and phone number of the person making the nomination.
A committee of five to seven people will judge all entries. Then the Nominator, Judging Committee, and Parks Officials will work together to surprise the individual. He or she will be honored at a ceremony in the days leading up to their riding in the parade on November 11. The parade will begin at 2nd and Broadway and travel along Broadway to 17th Street. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. There is a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. that will include the introduction of the Distinguished Veteran as well as the winners of the essay contest.
The deadline to send in nominations is October 14th at 5:00 pm. Please drop the nomination off at Paducah Parks Services located at 1400 H.C. Mathis Drive, or mail the nomination to
