Hands On St. Nick - A Makeover
St. Nicholas Family Clinic
1901 Kentucky Ave.
8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Come help us give this 20 year old organization a NEW LOOK! Help us paint, clean, organize and create a welcoming environment for our patients and the community.

Specific needs include: taping & mudding supplies, paint & artwork groupings, rugs, blinds & plants/interior foliage, soft fluorescents, baby changing station (x2), office organizers, L-shape desk, chairs, coffee tables, flooring – wood laminate & vinyl or tile, and volunteers.

Having served almost 7,000 patients since opening in 1994, St. Nicholas Family Free Clinic has made a significant impact on the health of our community and region. We are looking forward to giving back to the clinic by recruiting local businesses and volunteers to help lay new floors, freshen the walls with new paint, and organize the space for people to be proud of. Featuring JLF Interior Designs.

Reposer En Paix: Jay Brockenborough

UPDATE: I thought you’d like to know that Jay’s organs have now brought new life to five people in Paris. Along with his heart and liver, which I mentioned below, his cornea, kidneys and lungs were successfully transplanted.

imageI’m deeply saddened to tell you that my sweet brother-in-law, Jay Brockenborough, suffered a massive brain hemorrhage Thursday evening. The damage to his brain was so severe that doctors did not expect him to recover, and they’ve been unable to pinpoint the exact cause. Perhaps it was genetics. Perhaps high blood pressure. We just don’t know for sure.

Bruce arrived in Paris, Jay’s adopted home for the past several years, Saturday morning, and has been by Jay’s side the whole time.

We lost Jay Sunday evening. He was just 44.

We’ve received the most amazing outpouring of love and support via Facebook, calls, emails and visits — it’s truly touched our hearts the way that Jay touched so many here in Paducah and, actually, all over the world. Thank you.

And it’s comforting to know that Jay’s heart lives on. Bruce just called to say that Jay’s heart and his liver have already been transplanted, giving new life to others the way Jay would have wanted.

Please join us for a celebration of Jay’s own life. His memorial service is set for 6 p.m., Friday, July 2, at St. Thomas More in Paducah. I’ll share more details soon.

In the meantime, I’d like to share one of Jay’s favorite passages from Marcus Aurelius. He used to have this taped to a mirror when he lived in Lexington….

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

You succeeded well, my friend. We’ll miss you very, very much.

Oh, Mary…  I’m so sorry.  When you first posted this on facebook, I took a look at Jay’s page and was overwhelmed by the beauty of his photography and obvious joy for life.  The quote you have above is wonderful, a map for life we should all aspire to!  You and Bruce have my sincere sympathy and I hold you and the rest of your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Even though we didn’t get to see Jay often because of his residency in Paris, every time we did, it was always joyful.  Shawn and I thought so much of Jay and think so much of you and Bruce.  Jay’s love for others and love for life will never be forgotten.  See you and Bruce soon.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do.  Tator

Mary and Bruce-
You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I know all to well what it is like to loose a sibling at a young age. That is a pain no one should have to endure. If you all need anything done like walking your dogs if you have them or watering plants I will do whatever is needed. I pray God gives you all peace.

Bruce and Mary,

I am deeply saddened for your loss.  Although I never knew Jay, I can tell from reading the condolances that he was a great person, well loved and will be greatly missed.  Anyone who aspires to acheive the passage he had taped to his mirror surely had to have a humble spirit and desire to be a better person, not for himself but for others.  That is a legacy within itself.

My prayer for you and your family is for stenghth to get through this painful time.  Shelia Darden

Danny and I had a lovely visit with Jay in April and will always remember the good times we had with him.  He was a very special person and would be happy to know he has helped others.

Mary-
You know how much we all loved Jay.  He was such a warm hearted and good natured guy.  He was everybody’s friend.  He will be missed by so many but his life is instructive to us all- enjoy life and love what you love with passion.  You are a blessing to the Brockenborough family Mary and you and the whole family are in our prayers.
