Saturday, May 26

There is no question that the Empty Bowls Project was a HUGE success! You can read about how it worked here, but here are a few pictures I took at the event Saturday. The panorama above shows just how packed the civic center was when I arrived at 1pm. The even was scheduled from noon until 5 p.m., but by the time I got up to pick out my bowl at about 1:30, there were only 50 out of the original 800 bowls left to choose from! I still managed to pick out a really cool one and fill it with jambalaya from Flamingo Row and bread from Kirchhoff’s! YUM! While still there, I got a call from organizer and newly named (crowned? appointed?) Duke of Paducah, Michael Terra, telling me that he found the woman who had the bowl that I glazed. Since I hadn’t seen it fired, I ran over to snap a picture. Pretty, huh?

And finally, here is Michael with the volunteers who helped make this great event happen! Oh, and by the way, aside from being creative and fun? The project raised $12,000 for the Community Kitchen! Thanks Michael and everyone who volunteered and glazed and donated and ate! When do we start making bowls for next year?
