Built in 1873, The Mary Jane is a rare example of Victorian Italianate architecture in Paducah. In 2003, the current owners labored through a complete renovation from the studs which included turning an entire staircase around to accommodate a safer, large landing. Other projects included installing new HVACs, new electric, plumbing and replacing all of the plaster with drywall. In addition, the current owners added a commercial space equipped with a commercial grade sink, 220 volt outlet and full-size stainless refrigerator. This area housed the popular Global Nomad Coffee Shop and has also served as a Bed and Breakfast with two large first floor rooms adjoining that have functioned as guest suites.

The Mary Jane features an elegant formal living room with sweeping 15 foot tall ceilings. The original oak floors are still intact in all living areas besides dining and kitchen. The dining room has walnut and ash floors and a built-in china cabinet. The gourmet kitchen with Great Room boasts an island with a custom wine rack, wine refrigerator and lots of storage. The slate countertops house sleek stainless steel appliances. Numerous custom cherry cabinets, double ovens and a downdraft gas stovetop are a cook’s dream and outside, there is a custom made brick oven in the backyard.

The Mary Jane’s four fireplaces have been converted to gas. There is an expansive large sitting porch with manicured side garden and adorable covered back porch. The master suite has an original fireplace and mantle, walk in closet and double vanities. Thru the master suite walk-in-closet, go up the attic stairs and there’s a porthole onto the roof where you have an unobstructed view of the Paducah riverfront.

Zoned for residential and commercial use, The Mary Jane has exquisitely combined modern convenience and efficiency with historical sophistication. This home has endless possibilities and necessary utilities for a single family home, Bed and Breakfast, coffee shop or whatever you can imagine. Listed at $349,900 by Ashlea McMillan at Century 21 Service Realty, this 3709 square feet, fully renovated, 5 bedroom, 3 full bath home on a double lot in Historic Lowertown Paducah is a great value.
