Shandy (shan-dee) — a mixture of lemonade and beer.
Our friends at Artisan Kitchen have a new venture, a full service restaurant to be located in the old CC Cohen’s building. Aptly named Shandies, they will serve the delicious concoction (along with many other yummy versions such as rum and vodka shandies) when the restaurant opens in early November. The building itself is currently being renovated in an old world style with a modern twist, with lots of stained glass, shiny brass, and woods. Fun fact: Karla Lawrence of Artisan first learned what a shandy was by reading about it in a V.C. Andrews book in high school and was soon making them for her beer favoring father.
Karla and Artisan’s other half, David Jones, are known for putting their delectable twist on a menu, and Shandies will be no exception. The duo have been dreaming of their own full service restaurant for years, even noting that the CC Cohen’s building would be their first choice for location, so when it recently became available they jumped at the opportunity. They will feature an international, eclectic menu and a fully stocked bar featuring their signature Shandies, a large selection of international beers and fine wines. They will have lunch, dinner, and late night menus, and offer wine pairing recommendations for menu items.
For all you Artisan Kitchen lovers out there (which is basically EVERYONE, right?), please be assured that Artisan Kitchen will continue going strong as always, with the addition of AK Cafe come Spring! Both Dave and Karla will have full involvement in both Artisan Kitchen and Shandies and will continue the excellent service, presentation and quality we’ve come to expect from them.
Resumes are currently being accepted for all positions at Shandies. If you are a chef, cook, dishwasher, server, host, or just a very hard worker with a great attitude, bring your resume to Artisan Kitchen at 1704 Broadway. Hurry…we can’t wait to savor Shandies!
