Surfing the Web? Then surf on over to iSurfPaducah.com! And meet Alex Metzger, 27, the cute cyber brains behind this exciting portal to Paducah!
Alex Metzger, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Far too cute to be stuck in front of your computer all day!
Hah! Well, you know what it’s like starting a Web business. I launched iSurf Paducah a year ago, and I’m always working on something regarding the site.
I know! It is all-consuming, isn’t it? But so worth it! Tell us all about iSurf Paducah!
It’s a community-based Web site that serves as a local search engine for our community. Basically, it is a site that’s all about Paducah. People can view photos, play games, print coupons and read feature stories, as well as find local Web sites, restaurants and business information all for free. Plus, we are always making improvements; in fact we have just switched operating systems and designed a new template, which is a lot cleaner and more user-friendly.
The Web site is very interactive as well. I urge people to submit their own stories, photos, calendar items, etc…. If it’s local and family-friendly, we will publish it for free!
It’s a great site, and so exciting to see more and more people taking advantage of the Web. Do you just love it?
Though it has been a lot of work, I do love it. It has been great watching the site grow in popularity over the last year. Our steady growth shows that people like our features and information and are returning to use the site. I’ve met a lot of great people and it’s been a blast! I’m excited for what the future holds.
What’s the most challenging part?
The most challenging part, as any small business owner knows, is dealing with the small details that go along with running your own company. It’s always one thing or another it seems.
Absolutely! And you’re doing such a great job. In fact, we’ve got a joint project coming up!
That’s right! iSurf Paducah and iList Paducah are restarting what used to be Cal’s Coats for Kids. Back in the day, former WPSD meteorologist Cal Sisto held annual drives, collecting warm coats for kids in need. So we’re going to bring back that idea with our own twist and call it the iCoat Drive. We hope to get it started this fall in conjunction with Owen Cleaners.
We’re excited to team up with you on that. More details to come, right?
Right. More details to come on both of our sites!
Alex, where did you grow up and where did you go to high school?
I am from Paducah, born and raised here, and graduated from Paducah Tilghman in 2000.
And your people? What do they do?
My family does everything! Everywhere I go I run into a distant cousin I never knew I had. My family has a lot of history in the area as well, with the Metzger Meat Packing Company.
Do you mind sharing your age?
Not at all, I’m 27, although I can pass for much younger.
Do you still get carded?
Very frequently, but I don’t mind.
Hah! Enjoy that for as long as you can! So what did you do after high school?
I moved to Miami, Fla., to attend school and live with my sister. I stayed there a year, then transferred back to WKCTC, and then went on to UK to graduate. I lived in Lexington for a little over five years and loved every minute of it.
Well, we’re happy to have you back! You are SO CUTE! Tell us about your love life!
My love life is nonexistent at the moment. I dated a girl in Lexington for three years pretty seriously, and when we broke up I moved back home. I got into a two-year relationship not long after I moved back, which recently ended…so I pretty much haven’t been single in over five years.
What kind of woman are you looking for now?
I’m looking for a woman who is down to earth, intelligent and has a good sense of what’s important in the world…. Not to mention, good looks are always a plus!
Is it super hard to find folks in this area?
I don’t know if I would say super hard, but it’s not the easiest. Especially when all of your friends are married. I seldom find myself in a position to meet interesting, single women. Except, of course, at the Harrah’s and iList Paducah Speed Dating Event.
Yes! You were quite the star attraction! Did you end up going out with anyone?
No, I never did. I had just gotten out of a relationship.
Alex! That makes me so sad! We hand-delivered all those great gals!
Well, I wasn’t sure I was really ready to start dating again….or at least that is my excuse.
Well, I hope you’re ready now! What’s your idea of a great date?
A great date for me is any date where I’m spending quality time with somebody I enjoy. I love traveling, or doing exciting things like going to the Wine Trail, heading to Six Flags or maybe catching a Cardinals game. If I’m planning on going out it might as well be doing something fun that you don’t do every day. I also really enjoy cooking dinner and watching a movie at home.
Oh, we LOVE a man who cooks! What’s your best dish?
Well, there are quite a few things I cook. We have an old family recipe of spaghetti that is amazing, and I really enjoy grilling steaks.
And what are your all-time favorite movies?
Man, you ask some tough questions. My favorite movies tend to change depending on what mood I am in. The Cincinnati Kid, Shawshank Redemption, The Apostle, A Clockwork Orange and Blue Velvet are some of my favorites. And I of course think The Godfather and Billy Madison are the two greatest movies of all time.
I loved Shawshank, and The Godfather is one of my faves. A Clockwork Orange? Yick.
Typical guy answers, I know.
I hear you’re quite the golfer, too.
I don’t know about that, but I have played since I was a kid. Seems like my dad would drop me off at the golf course in the morning and pick me up at night…kind of like golf was my babysitter I guess. My dad and I have gone to Scotland twice for golf trips; and it is absolutely amazing. I love it over there. I can’t wait to go back. It’s great to be able to experience that with your father as well, much of our relationship revolves around the game.
Well, too cute Alex Metzger. Anything else that you’d like to say?
Probably!
Good one. Cute AND clever! iSurf on, Alex, iSurf on!
