Ashlea McMillan

She’s been told she looks like an ice princess, but stunningly beautiful Ashlea McMillian is a total goofball. You’ll find her whooping it up on a mic, dance floor or pair of slalom skis. Athlete, artist, “Symphony Wench,” Ashlea’s got it all. She’s a mom, too!
Ashlea McMillian, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Here we go:
- For the past 15 years, I have lived in large metropolitan areas. For the past three years I had toyed with the idea of moving back to my hometown of Paducah. Through the years and visits back, I came to realize that I like smaller towns better because of their familiarity. I think it is fun to unexpectedly run into someone you know at the grocery store. I enjoy reminiscing walking down Wallace Lane, as I have since attending Paducah Middle School. I like to hang out with my brother and play with our kids Love it!
My family has always been very important to me. My dad is a real “man’s man.” He can take apart an engine or discuss world politics. My mom is a domestic goddess who loves her friends, theatre and interior design. My brother, an outdoor enthusiast, is also a fantastic dad. My sister-in-law, Marra, is an amazing friend and mother. I talk to my mom daily and have Sunday brunch with my family regularly after church. I am thrilled to spend more time with them now that I am home.- I believe in volunteerism and giving back to the community. My family and I belong to Broadway United Methodist Church and I sing in their choir. Monthly, I am the “Symphony Wench,” helping out in any way I can for the Paducah Symphony Orchestra. I am also the new Playdate Chair for Newcomer’s Club and organize playdates for our children.
- I am a Realtor with Century 21 Service and have been practicing real estate for six years. If there is a sign in a yard, I automatically start thinking about who would like that house, what price it is, what it looks like on the inside and how the house could have better curb appeal. It is a passion — but I work to live not live to work. I also have a B.A. in Journalism from U.K. and have finished two years of Law School.
- Being in love is easy, choosing to love is what counts. Once the luster fades, a relationship has to have good communication, respect for differences, honesty, laughter and some spontaneity to last. I think women forgot how good chivalry can be. It is important to have equality in the workplace but a treasure to have someone who will open the door for you, tell you that you look pretty or fix your flat tire.
- I have been told that I look like an “ice princess.” I think it has been a problem for me in the dating world because I am really a goofball at heart. Give me a microphone, a podium or a dance floor and I will try to make you laugh.
- Being the aforementioned goofball, I enjoy watching comedies. My favorite TV show is Modern Family. Some of my favorite movies are Office Space, High Fidelity and Holy Grail. I am disappointed in the route comedy is going. I am bored with movies like The Hangover that focus exclusively on potty humor. However, the brother-in-law character is hilarious.…
- One of my favorite places to be is on the lake. I am an avid slalom water skier and will get up very early to be the first person up. After skiing, we return for a great biscuits and gravy meal prepared by my mom. Up at the lake, I also go bike trail riding and hiking, grill out, lay in a hammock with a book or sit by a fire at night. Those that don’t enjoy lake activities or being away from Internet access need not apply!
- I also love winter sports. I am an intermediate level snow skier and have skied in Colorado, Utah, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. Ice skating is also fun but I have been once in the last 10 years. Throwing snowballs and playing in the snow happens every time I have a chance.
- My hobby is painting portraits and landscapes. Now that I have about 50 pieces done, I am about to take my first painting class at The Paducah School of Art, go figure! Younger, I was intimidated by other artists because they were better than me. Now, I do not get intimidated by much and realize that everyone should just strive for their own personal best.
- Cooking and eating is a favorite pastime. Over the years, I have learned to make several ethnic foods: Filipino Lumpia, Pancit and Beefsteak. Greek Moussaka and Leg of lamb with potatoes. I also really enjoy dressing up and going out to a nice dinner. Some of my favorite places are Jasmine, Martin Fierro and Tribeca.
- Pat Conroy is my favorite writer. His character development in The Great Santini and other works was so powerful. I enjoy reading Southern literature because of the larger-than-life characters, the architecture, the food and the depiction of Southern cities.
- Travel is another passion. I have toured most of Western Europe but my favorite trip was to the Mediterranean in 2006. The cerulean blue water of Mykonos, Greece, their peaceful existence (on one side of the island, the other side is party place for Paris Hilton) and the delicious fresh food struck a chord with me. I would like to go back.
To have friends you have to be a friend. With a newborn it is difficult, but I try to touch base with at least one friend a day. It is so important to step outside of your own life and connect with others. It really does take a village to raise a child and having good friends and support network are fantastic advantages. - Jesus Christ and God are my savior. Since college, I have faithfully attended church and constantly strive to be a better person.
- I am a “power-walker.” I belong to Energy Fitness but I get bored with going to the gym. If the weather is nice, I’d rather get outside and just stroll with Max and look at the beautiful scenery.
- I do not like wallflowers. If I am at a wedding reception, I want a date who wants to be on the dance floor. If we are in downtown Nashville, I want the guy to offer to jump on the mechanical bull. I like people who are willing to at least try new things and are confident enough to be out of their element.
- Life is too short to worry about what others think. Be yourself and have fun — as long as you are not hurting others in the process!
- I think it’s ironic that everyone says they want a front porch when they are buying a house yet I rarely see people use them. I am trying to take the time to smell the roses and do things like sit on the front porch and watch the world go by.
