Corey James Richard

alt textLocal musician Corey Richard plays in The Wish You Weres, Parasite Diet, Uncle Skunkle and the Scarecrow Family Band — and runs a charity group called the Youth Tolerance Organization. Yep, he’s awfully easy to tolerate, on the ears and eyes!

Corey Richard, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Here we go:

  1. I play in some bands in town. Parasite Diet, Uncle Skunkle and the Scarecrow Family Band and The Wish You Weres.

  2. I have a little charity group called Youth Tolerance Organization (YTO). Ronnie McCoy and I put on Freezer Pop Fest last year to raise some money for that.

  3. I lived in Australia for a while! That’s sorta’ cool.

  4. I draw cartoons and write weird stories and hope to one day publish some books for chil’ren.

  5. I mainly just play the drums, but I mess with some other things here and there.

  6. The Wish You Weres sort of evolved from my first band with Joey Duncan that we started in high school. We’re as much a straight-forward punk rock band as I can imagine.

  7. Parasite Diet came from my good friend Josey and I wanting to record some poppier stuff and it sort of just grew into its own super bubblegum entity. We currently stand as, as far as I’m aware, the only power pop rock band from the future in Western Kentucky. We just finished recording a new full-length record.

  8. And it’s probably safe to say that I’m playing with Uncle Skunkle and the Scarecrow Family Band because drummers are hard to come by in our area, and we’re all spread pretty thin and it gave me a chance to do something completely raw and obnoxious. It’s totally stripped down and loud garage/surf stuff. And waaaay fun. We’re also about to put out a new record.

  10. The Youth Tolerance Organization is just a super loosely associated group of friends who get together whenever possible to do little projects to raise money to help local out local people who need it. Freezer Pop Fest was easily our biggest event so far. We teamed up with Ronnie McCoy and Paducah Promotions and together we really made a huge difference in the life of a local family.

  11. That man is a king, by the way. And it’s so cool because doing nice things is cool!

  12. Editor’s Note: Yep, we’re Ronnie fans, too!
  13. I went to Australia for a girl. Needless to say, it didn’t really pan out. But I did spend six months working on her dad’s sheep farm and playing with some really fun musicians from Melbourne. I wish there was a little more to that, but that’s about as exciting as that story gets.

  14. My cartoons and stories are usually focused on outer space or robots or kids with reeeaaaally long arms and singing bodies of water and tall houses with no roofs.

  15. Right now I work at Bluegrass BMW in the parts and service department. It’s obviously no dream job, but it pays really well and I love most of the people who work with me.

  16. My typical days consist of work and music. I wish I could say that it’s more exciting than that, but right now those things are taking up the majority of my time. I’m not really into the party scenevibething.

  18. I don’t drink or drug or smoke gross cigarettes. You’re much more likely to find me road-tripping and adventuring in another state on the weekends. I love to travel and explore and create.

  19. I run the Paducah Underground message boards. It would be great if you could mention that. A little exposure always does the board good.

  20. I love Paducah because it has the sweetest people on the planet and it’s big enough to have everything I need. The people I love are here. It’s obviously not perfect, but I’ve been all over and, when you consider all the great things and people here, it’s totally good enough.
