iLove it
We know you single folks are busy. iList Paducah goes on that first date so you don't have to!

Jay Marchmon

Darling Jay Marchmon gives money to the homeless, picks up strays, believes in karma and blushes easily. Can you guess his zodiac sign?

Jay Marchmon, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Here we go:

  1. alt textI just started my job as Associate News Producer at WPSD! Before that, I worked in the social services sector. My background is teaching, and I’ve worked with special needs individuals and with at-risk adolescents. I’ve always loved my work, even on bad days. I was the host of a morning radio show in Hopkinsville, and enjoyed the experience. Despite what some may say, radio is still a living and vibrant medium.

  2. I’m originally from Chattanooga, Tenn., but I’ve lived in nine states (thanks in part to a stint in the Army) and visited over half of the continental ones and seven countries.

  3. I found my way to Paducah via I-24. No, really! I lived in middle Tennessee, then moved to Nashville, then Carbondale, then back down to Hopkinsville, on to Murray to finish my bachelor’s, and then a few years later moseyed my way up to the river. While I miss the mountains and valleys, the rivers make me feel at home, and I’ve come to love Kentucky’s gently rolling hills. Of course, the music scene helps me feel at home as well.

  4. Since moving to the area, I’ve had the greatest gift of friends. I love socializing (I’m sure there are some heads nodding and eyes rolling at that), and have an amazingly wide variety of friends, buddies and acquaintances. That’s what I love about meeting new people: We’re all similar in so many ways, yet so richly different. The thing I enjoy most about meeting people is getting to know them, listening to hopes and dreams, history and desires.

  5. I grew up in a household of women, and although my mother has since passed on, I regularly talk with my two sisters, my niece and great niece. One of my sisters still lives in Chattanooga, and the other (along with my niece and her family) live near Orlando. I always say I’m going to visit them and never come back, but that hasn’t happened…yet

  6. Apparently, I have a very serious look on my face sometimes, so people who don’t know me presume I’m a serious person. While that’s somewhat true, I don’t take things too seriously. Just talk with me for more than 30 seconds and you’ll know that. Humor is a constant, and it’s a big part of life (and of a date) for me. If we can’t laugh some, then things probably won’t work.

  7. A glass bottle Coke made with sugar just tastes better!

  8. When I have time, I find reading to be one of the most enjoyable ways to center myself and relax. I like most genres of fiction, but I really enjoy a good book of poetry, or a good southern gothic, mystery or science fiction story. Of all the genres, I find science fiction to be the most sociological. A good science fiction story is about the human element, with the technology as a backdrop. Contemporary fiction seems to be blurring the lines between genres, and I like that.

  9. Of course, I also enjoy online reading, especially informative sites like iList Paducah!

    Editor’s Note: Right on, Jay!

  10. I spent a better part of my 20s deciding what I wanted to do and what type of degree I should pursue. I started out in physical therapy, then shifted to art therapy, and after working in the engineering field for a bit, I considered engineering physics. After a while, I realized that almost all of my work and volunteering centered around people, not products, so I focused on sociology as a discipline. As a career, I work in the social services sector; my background is teaching, and I’ve worked with special needs individuals and with at-risk adolescents. I’ve always loved my work, even on bad days.

  11. I’ve worked in a wide variety of fields in my life. I’ve been a radio morning show host (I’ve been told I have the perfect face for radio ;) ), a sideshow freak, a graphic designer, Rock City’s Rocky the Elf, a welder, and a surveyor to name a few. The experiences help shape me into who I am, and also provide great fodder for writing. And boy, are there some stories!

  12. In addition to whatever else may be on my plate, I write and sculpt regularly. I try to write every day, whether it’s part of a short story (been working on short shorts lately), a blog, a poem (usually bad ones) or a chapter for a novel. I don’t write as much non-fiction as I have, but I think that’s purely environmental.

  13. I’d stopped sculpting for a few years, but started sketching and creating maquettes again last year. Art, in all of its expressive forms, is such a strong part of the human condition that I can’t see why we would stop funding it in our children’s lives.

  14. Some weeks I can be found at several local open mic nights: KC’s on Tuesdays, Mother Duncan’s or Cheers on Wednesdays and Etcetera on Fridays. I usually go just to listen, but I’ll hop up on stage occasionally to bore the crowd for a few minutes. ;)

  15. Some people say I’m too honest. That’s the way I was raised, and I don’t think it serves any real purpose to not be honest. Eventually, people will know the truth, so why not give it to them up front? What kind of car you drive; what you do for a job; what experience you have; who you’ve dated. Why lie about those things? Is it worth it to lie? If people are interested in those things more than they are YOU, then they’re not worth the time and effort.

  16. I can find enjoyment and pleasure in most activities: bowling, riding, a movie or gallery visit, gardening and yardwork, cards, wineries, fishing, hiking, building.

  17. Some of the things I enjoy most are reading, sweet tea, the smell of old books, maps, old keys, sculpture, zombies, baseball (not always in that order). I also love thrift stores, movies, music, writing, cooking, a good beer or glass of wine. I’m a White Sox and Reds fan among a sea of Cardinals!

  18. I love most music, though classic rock, some indie, and bluegrass/Americana are probably my favorites. I really like a range of movies. I love a good zombie movie, or when things blow up. But I also cry at sappy love stories. Food? Yes, please.

  19. I’m a Gemini, and while I don’t really believe in astrology, the sign really seems to fit me.

  20. Instead of coffee, I’m an English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast tea drinker.

  21. I love to hop in the car and take a drive to discover something new to me. In my mind, road trips are an American tradition, and every summer I try to get a couple in. Each year for my birthday, I go to the Superman Festival. Of course, it’s not as far of a trip this time!

  22. Despite being raised not to, I give money to the homeless. I pick up stray animals. I believe in Karma. I blush easily.”
