Quilt Man
Who is that handsome masked man whizzing around the Quilt Show on his Segway Sew Mobile, wearing a patchwork cape, black tights, red boots and a power belt adorned with his favorite tools? Hold on to your bobbins, gals! It’s Quilt Man! And he’s single! And just celebrated his birthday! Happy Birthday, Quilt Man!
Quilt Man, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it. Here we go!
- I’m a travel person. And in the travel business, the aim is to “make happy” with people.
- My job is to sell and market our wonderful city of Paducah.
We love to “make happy” with the quilting guild of artists who travel across the country — and even around the world — to be with us during the American Quilters Society Quilt Show.- Ours is a destination most known by visitors as a quilting mecca — the home of the National Quilt Museum, Hancock Fabrics and a rock star quilter named Caryl Bryer Fallert.
- The ladies may find me mysterious because of my mask, but in reality, traveling is all about taking off that mask and being who you are right then and there.
- I truly find fulfillment in guiding visitors through a destination – a state-of-being – that cannot be found on any map, even if it means wearing a big “Q” on my chest and reciting the entire alphabet naming something quilty for every letter.
- Recently, writers from notable places found their state-of-being in this destination too. See the following articles on Paducah by:
- Forbes: Main Street USA Brings In The Bucks Using Pride
- The Washington Post: The Impulsive Traveler: Paducah, Ky., will bring out the artist in you
- Atlanta Constitution Journal: A ‘distinctive’ destination for arts, history
- Yahoo! Travel’s: Time Warp Towns

- National Trust for Historic Preservation: 2011 Distinctive Destination Fan Favorite
- And, of course, you can keep up with all the great things going on in Paducah right here on iList Paducah!
- This year, Quilt Man is unveiling my new sidekick at the Quilt Show. Batman has Robin, so Quilt Man has Bobbin.
- The “Q” on my chest is the logo of the National Quilt Museum and also appears on my power ring, which I use as a stamp to ink my John Hancock on the Quilt Show brochure.
- My mode of transportation? It’s my “Sew-Mobile” - a Segway, perfect for a flowing cape and for mysterious, quick exits.
- My arch-enemy? Seam Ripper. He is every quilters’ worst nightmare!
- My kryptonite? Bleach. It just takes the color and life right out of me, not to mention burns like crazy!
- If not on the Segway, you’ll find Quilt Man aboard a large motorcoach giving step-on guide tours of my beloved Paducah. Climb aboard! And we hope you enjoy a fantastic Quilt Week here in Paducah!
