Rachel English

alt textShe has worked as a Disney World merchantainer, served Liza Minelli Jack and Coke and loves Saturday morning NPR. Rachel English is breathtakingly beautiful — and never fully dressed without a smile!

Rachel English, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Here we go:

  1. I’m a semi-recent college graduate (class of ‘08) of Murray State University. Go Racers! I received my Bachelors of Science in Outdoor Recreation and minored in Youth and Nonprofit Leadership.

  2. I work as the Activities Director at Superior Care Home, which is a nursing and rehabilitation center. I love my job and the residents I work with every day! I coordinate the social recreational events within the facility and encourage independent recreational pursuits among the residents. It may sound trite, but the work I do is truly gratifying and it means so much to be able to work with local people for local people.

  3. I was born in Hampton, Va. (dad was a Naval Academy man, so we lived several places in the New England area) and moved around a few times before February 1989 when my mama and dad (both Marshall County natives) settled back down in Paducah. So, I’ve spent 21 of my 24 years here!

  4. As a camp counselor at The Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana‘s Bear Creek Aquatic Camp, I received the “Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” award. I can’t help it! I spent 10 years in braces and went through extensive orthodontia work. So, now that all of that is behind me, I can’t help but show off my smile!

  5. When I was in elementary school, I won the local Little Caesars coloring contest that was in the Paducah Sun. I remember my mama and grandmama sitting me down at the kitchen island with a brand new box of crayons. You may not believe it, but I won the contest and took my mom, dad, brother and myself on a free trip to Six Flags!

  6. I can’t help it – I love Lifetime movies.

  7. Maybe I’m biased, but I think I have the very best friends this fabulous town has to offer. I’m so blessed to have such talented and fun and friendly people in my life.

  8. One of my favorite things that we do together is have Supper Club once a week. We rotate houses and try to cook something different each Wednesday. I believe that not much is better than sitting around with good friends, enjoying good drink and good food.

  9. I’ve worked some very interesting jobs in my life and have a strange affinity for ones where I get to wear strange clothes. Some of these include “Merchantainer” at Disney World, water aerobics instructor, wind surfing instructor, dance teacher, Old Tyme Photographer at Patti’s 1880’s Settlement and recreation coordinator at Marriott Orlando and Hilton Orlando (which included dressing up as our Activities Department mascot “Cap’n Finn,” who was a dolphin).

  10. alt textI’m a firm believer in the power of positive thinking and that every person should know how to drive a stick shift. If you know the basics of it, you can drive anything.

  11. Crafting is my favorite hobby these days. Lately I have been putting a lot of energy into creating glass pendants for myself and my friends. Some things work and some things don’t (especially when it involves my sewing machine), but I really enjoy the creative process.

  12. I try to support live music as much as possible. Getting out of town and traveling for shows isn’t as easy as it was back in college, but the occasional trip out of town for a concert is an absolute MUST with me. Paducah is lucky to have so many talented musicians and I like to get out to hear them – especially if it’s a show at the Irvin Cobb! But whether it’s bluegrass, folk, funk, jam bands, yacht rock, etc., I’m probably going to want to see it.

  13. In November I moved to Broadway and I really like being a “downtownie.” It’s great to walk to the restaurants, bars, shops, and to my friends’ houses. Even my mama is a 15-minute walk away! (She absolutely loves that.)

  14. My dog Dixie is the love of my life. She and I are two peas in a pod!

  15. Even at my young age I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some remarkable places. I’ve visited Switzerland, France, Italy, Scotland and Puerto Rico. One of my favorite memories of traveling was seeing my brother sing at Notre Dame. I experienced a feeling of excitement and overwhelming pride for him that I can’t quite explain.

  16. I danced ballet, tap and jazz for 14 years. These days, I’m still dancing, but it mostly involves booze and Bawn in the Mash.

  17. I love wine, but I’m certainly not educated on it. Give me a box of Franzia and a back porch. I’m a happy camper.

  18. My favorite quote is from Ben Stein. He says, “The indispensable first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want.” This idea is so simple, yet oh so difficult.

  19. To me, playing outside is simply one of the best things in life. It’s just downright good for you.

  20. When working at the Marriott Orlando in the recreation department, I once picked up a waitressing shift for a large banquet. I had absolutely no waitressing experience, but I was told it wouldn’t be too hard. Wouldn’t you know that I was given the VIP table! That night I served Liza Minelli Jack and Coke and Christina Applegate Dom Perignon. As my first and last waitressing job, I can proudly say no beverages ended up in anyone’s lap… thank God.

  21. Saturday morning NPR programming makes me happy.

  22. I hate doing the dishes.
