Dancing With Our Stars: Saturday, March 27

Hope is in our hands — and their feet! It’s time for Dancing With Our Stars! The big event is set for 6:30 p.m. (doors open with open dancing), Saturday, March 27, at Harrah’s Metropolis.

alt textThe actual competition begins at 8 p.m., with the audience voting by dollar donations. So be ready to support your favorite star!

The event benefits the Lourdes Relay For Life teams, which then turn all funds raised over to the American Cancer Society.

Dress to impress and enjoy live dance music by Todd Hill and His Orchestra! Heavy hors d’oeuvres, auction, dollar dance and more.

Tickets are $50 (checks payable to the American Cancer Society). Just a few tickets remain, so if you want them, contact Rita Bailey, 270.444.2873, right away!

A native of southern Illinois, Leslie and her husband, Dr. Joseph Bassi, have four children and four grandchildren. She enjoys tennis, gardening, travel and friends. Leslie is on the Marshall and McCracken County Foster Care Boards, IRR board, president of the Potting Shed Garden Club, USTA Tennis Team and past member of the Market House Theatre board. Leslie is dancing for family and friends who have lost their battle to cancer as well as those who are survivors.

Although born in Boston, Patti has resided in Paducah since the age of 3. She and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Case, have six children and five grandchildren. Patti is a registered nurse working at the Dermatology & Skin Surgery Clinic. She enjoys golf, horseback riding, hiking, boating and spending time with her grandchildren and four poodles. Jeff and Patti love traveling and dancing. She dances tonight in memory of her in-laws who lost their battles to cancer.

Robbie, a native of Owensboro, Ky., is Vice President, Sales & Customer Service of Crounse Corp. He is a member of St. Johns Knights of Columbus and St. Johns Church. He enjoys boating, fishing and hunting. Rob and his wife of 25 years, Jackie, have three children. Rob’s father is a cancer survivor. Rob has no dance experience, but states his wife loves the TV show. “So I thought it might work at my house for me,” he says.

Entrepreneur and owner of James Enterprises Inc. Donnie is a hometown boy. He is a board member of BB&T Bank. Donnie has two sons and a daughter. He enjoys golf and collects UK Basketball memorabilia, knives and old and new Corvettes. Donnie has no previous dance experience, but dances for a cure because both his mother and sister have been touched by cancer.

Ronnie was born and raised in Paducah and is a graduate of PCC. He has built James Marine Inc. from a tug, fleeting and fueling service to a diversified business with grocery service, top water repairs, machine shop, diesel repairs, wheel shop, fab shop with barge and boat repairs. James Marine has grown to a full service river industry with 1,000 employees. Ronnie enjoys golfing and hunting.

Originally from Mobile, Ala., David is vice president of sales at WPSD-TV. David and his wife, Sandra, have five children. He enjoys sailing, golf and Alabama football. David has had the unique experience of singing the National Anthem at a KC Chiefs/Oakland Raiders football game. He was named Boss of the Year in 2007.

Gayle, City Commissioner and owner of Chantillies, has worked in Paducah 42 years. She is a board member of Paducah Water Works and the Paducah Riverfront Development authority. She is a member of the Rotary Club and has served as first president of the LowerTown Renaissance Association. Gayle and her husband, Andrew, reside in LowerTown and have one daughter. Gayle is a member of Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church. She is a breast cancer survivor.

Gena, a native of Paducah, is a teacher at Concord Elementary School. She is a member of the Charity League and past president of Little Garden Club. Gena and her husband, Michael, have three children. She enjoys performing Market House Theatre, mystery novels and playing golf. Gena lost her mother-in-law to pancreatic cancer in 2008 and dances in her memory.

Although born in Paducah, Lisa moved to Florida in 1985 and returned in 2007. Lisa is marketing director at the Carson Center. She is a member of Downtown Kiwanis, board member of the Paducah Tennis Association and member of the National Association of Female Executives. She was named Rising Star in 2005. She worked in professional tennis for 10 years. She has competed as an amateur in Latin and Smooth dance, reaching the silver level. Lisa lost her father to colon cancer.

A physician with Infectious Disease Associates, Carl married a hometown girl, Dr. Polly LeBuhn, and moved to Paducah in 2000. He is from Bettendorf, Iowa, a graduate of Iowa State University and attended medical school at the U of Iowa. The LeBuhns have three children. Carl enjoys fishing and skiing. He has no previous dance experience, but dances for an uncle and grandmother touched by cancer, as well as his patients.

Kelly is originally from Carbondale, Ill., and has lived in Paducah since 2004. She is an employee of Orr Medical and is a member of Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce and Business Networking International. Kelly and her husband, Chad, have a 3-year-old daughter. She is learning to love golf and admits she was a Salsa instructor in college!

Toni (an iList Paducah iDate of the Week) is the Public Safety Administrative Assistant for the City of Mayfield. She was born and raised in the Mayfield area. When time permits, she volunteers for the Dream Factory and at local nursing homes. Toni was first runner-up and the People’s Choice in the 2008 Mrs. Purchase Area, and 4th runner-up, Best Smile and Delegates Choice in Mrs. Kentucky 2008. Toni dances in memory of her father who lost his battle to cancer in 2001 and for those friends who are winning their battle with cancer. “I commend you all for your strength and faith,” she says. “I thank you for being an inspiration in my life.” Toni enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.

Jennifer, WPSD Chief Meteorologist, is a member of The National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society. She is a three-time Emmy-nominated Ky. Associated Press Weather Caster of the Year 2007. She and her husband, Brian, have a 3-year-old son. Jennifer was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. She enjoys storm chasing, gardening, photography, golf and watching NFL football. Both of her grandmothers battled cancer.

Adam is from Hickory, N.C., and moved to Paducah in 2007 to become the Paducah Sun’s entertainment writer. It’s a job he still loves, and one that led him to the woman he loves, his wife Dusty Luthy Shull, who writes for the Sun‘s sports pages. Shull’s mother-in-law, Nikki Luthy, is a 10-year breast cancer survivor. Cancer took the life of his great grandmother Annie Shull, great aunts Rosa Rominger and Sue Brittain and great uncle Paul Winters.

Heidi, a native of Utah, moved to Paducah 14 years ago. She is the director of the Paducah Cooperative Ministry. Heidi has three daughters. She loves nature, animals and never misses a dancing program on TV. Heidi dances in memory of her father whom she lost to cancer in 2008. “He had begun ballroom dancing lessons several months before becoming ill and loved it,” she says. “He said it was more fun than golf!”

Crystal grew up in Hickman County and is Human Resources Director of FNB Bank in Mayfield. She is a member of the Paducah Lions Club board of directors, Four Rivers Covenant Church and has worked with the Telethon of Stars. Crystal is the mother of two beautiful little girls. She enjoys time with her girls and watching college volleyball.

Kyle is the chief of Medicine at Lourdes Hospital and is in private practice and with Healthworks Medical. Kyle is a native of Sikeston, Mo., and attended the University of Missouri. He did his residency at the University of Alabama. Dr. Turnbo and his wife, Nicole, have three children. He enjoys baseball, golf, tennis and competition break dancing/rap. (Just kidding!) His grandfather died of lung cancer.

Myron is a chemical engineer from Purdue University. He is employed by Arkema in Calvert City. He and his wife, Sherry, are proud parents of a 6-year-old daughter. He describes himself as a dance dad who enjoys watching his daughters perform at Center Stage. He enjoys running, soccer and landscaping.
