9th Annual Community Foundation Fred Paxton Fund Run
Whether you walk, wheel, run or go piggyback, you’ll be a winner in the 9th Annual Community Foundation Fred Paxton Fund Run for Charities! The big 5K event is set for Saturday, July 17, in Noble Park. Register at Shelter 10 starting at 6:30 a.m.; the race begins at 8 a.m.
The best thing about the whole thing — besides getting a little exercise with all the other super-cute participants — is that the event raises some nice money for 19 local organizations. Plus, enjoy free ice cream from the Paducah Bank WOW! wagon afterward, as well as free swimming passes to the Noble Park pool, 10 a.m.-noon! (Bring your race bib — that serves as your pass.)
Here’s how it works. Download the registration form. On the donor page, write in every organization that you’d like to raise money for, and decide how much you’d like to give to each. Here’s a hint: the more, the better.
Then write a check to the Community Foundation and send it in. Include your race entry fee, as $5 of that will go to the organizations, as well.
The Community Foundation will match all the donations up to $10,000 per organization, up to $100,000 overall.
So, for example, let’s say you and four friends each give $1,000 apiece to, say, Easter Seals of West Kentucky. That’s $5,000. The Foundation will match that and, voilá, a $10,000 check finds its merry way into the Easter Seals of West Kentucky’s own endowment fund account, creating extra interest for the organization to use to change the lives of children and adults with disabilities or other special needs.
You can give as much as you like to as many organizations as you’d like — and extra karma points if you encourage others to do the same.
So there you go. Couldn’t be easier.
