It’s the 10th anniversary of The Vagina Monologues. And for the past six of them, a very vagina-friendly group of amazing Paducah area women (and lots-o-great men) have supported and performed the show to raise money for the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center. The monologues come from interviews that playwright Eve Ensler (left) conducted with more than 200 women of all backgrounds. They’re funny and disturbing; empowering and emotional; surprising and sad; uplifting and victorious. The show’s intent: to celebrate female sexuality and promote education and awareness to end violence against women and children.
This year’s show is set for 7 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at Paducah Tilghman High School, 2400 Washington St. Tickets are $10 at the door. The proceeds, including those from a very fun raffle, go to the Merryman House, which provides safety and counseling to more than 300 domestic violence survivors in our area each year.

Some folk are uncomfortable with the word, vagina. And no doubt about it, vagina is definitely the word of the evening.
Internationally, celebrities like Oprah, Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, Whoopie Goldberg, Brooke Shields and Cate Blanchett have taken great pride in their vaginas, performing the show and raising millions of dollars to fund programs and shelters to fight violence and help survivors move on to new and better lives.
