Maiden Alley Cinema Chick Flicks a Blockbuster Hit!

Who knew that a movie series geared toward women would be such a smash hit in Paducah? Certainly not Landee Bryant, Jill Chambers, Robyn Shapiro and Mary Thorsby, who, over a couple glasses of wine, combined their creativity and kicked off the series with not one, but two premiere parties!

Sex, Sushi & the City
The Maiden Alley Cinema Chick Flicks series began in October with Sex & the City — which morphed into Sex, Sushi & the City complete with Mindy Carroll's catering, the Tuxedo Hotties (cute local men) pouring Brett Duwe's and Brian Steffen's never-ending cosmos (thanks, Roof Brothers!), Green Door Floral's flowers, a super cute fashion show and the hottest gift bags to hit Paducah. All that, plus photos by Glenn Hall and Keith Ford, and a commemorative martini glass to take home. iList Paducah pix, here!

"The response was amazing, we sold out within a week or so of announcing the event and decided to host the party a second night to accommodate everyone," says Robyn. Her company, René Advertising Specialties, and iList Paducah are the series' co-sponsors. "It was a wonderful experience — people are still taking about it."
Steel Magnolias: Cupcakes, Coffee and Kleenex
November's Steel Magnolias: Cupcakes, Coffee and Kleenex attracted a lively house, too, complete with Kirchhoff's red velvet cupcakes (Steel Magnolias fans remember that armadillo groom's cake), festive coffee and travel mugs from Etcetera Coffeehouse and much-needed tissue dispensers from the series' lead sponsor, Contemporary OB/GYN.

All proceeds from the Chick Flick Series benefit Maiden Alley Cinema and the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center.

Check out the new Chicks Flicks Series blog for more details!

"Chick Flicks has given us the opportunity to provide a new series that caters to a completely new audience," says Landee, M.A.C.'s gorgeous executive director. "And it's a great way to provide a fun night for anyone without breaking the bank. Contemporary OB/GYN, iList Paducah, René Advertising Specialties, Roof Brothers and Etcetera Coffeehouse have all been wonderful sponsors thus far, and we are always excited to get more people involved."
A Look Ahead
Chick Flicks is held the third Tuesday of the month. Here's the upcoming schedule for the next six months (ticket prices will vary based on the grandeur of each event, and films are subject to change, so check the blog frequently!):

Tuesday, December 16
Breakfast at Tiffany's: M.A.C. Style
Holly Golightly, the ultimate party girl, shows us life in New York City in the '60s. The movie is a Blake Edwards' adaption of Truman Capote's classic novella, now celebrating its 50th anniversary. And Audrey Hepburn's performance — and outfits — are irresistible!

$40, includes champagne, mimosas, commemorative champagne glass, heavy hors d'oeuvres, the now-famous Tuxedo Hotties, gift bags and another fun fashion show. Sponsors so far include Transformation Wellness Center & Medical Spa. If you'd like to be included in our gift bags, please email Robyn.

Wear your little black dresses and tiaras! And send us your favorite little black dress story — where you got your dress, the most fun event you've worn it to, the best thing that ever happened to you in it, etc…. The top three favorites win prizes!

Send your $40 check, made out to Maiden Alley Cinema, to:

Jill Chambers
601 Jefferson St.
Paducah, Ky. 42001

And email Mary Thorsby to let us know your check is on the way!

Send your check by December 10, as this event is sure to sell out!

Oscar Night Gala Fundraiser
We'll forgo our usual Tuesday date for this very special Sunday night at Maiden Alley Cinema. It's "dress-up" time as we do the Oscars, MAC Style. Paparazzi will snap photos of you on the red carpet! Our own local version of Joan Rivers will quiz you about your outfits. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails! Need more jewels? Bid on them in a silent auction from Julie Shaw of Aphrodite Gallery. Great music and a way-fun after-party. RSVP now!

Tuesday, March 17
Thelma and Louise
The ultimate gal-pal road trip! Thelma and Louise break out of their normal life and hit the open road. Their journey, however, takes a turn when Louise comes to Thelma's rescue. RSVP now!

Other flicks on the list: Bridget Jones' Diary, The Ya Ya Sisterhood, Something to Talk About, Mystic Pizza, Fried Green Tomatoes, Mamma Mia! — the list goes on.

“The Chick Flick series proves that when women come together, great things happen," says Bethany Walker Jones, marketing director, Contemporary OB/GYN. "We love to support events that unify women and benefit great causes. Needless to say, Contemporary OB/GYN quickly jumped on board as the lead sponsor.”

Have a favorite Chick Flick? A question? Or want to know about sponsorship opportunities? Send an email!

See you at the movies!
Maiden Alley Cinema: The Back Story
The Paducah Film Society (PFS), a 501c3 nonprofit organization, was founded in 1991 by a group of arts-minded individuals who saw a need for an outlet for foreign, independent and documentary film. For the first 10 years, PFS screened one film per month: Sundays at the Cinema.

As interest increased within the community, programming expanded to multiple screenings. While the space PFS rented from Paducah's Market House Theatre was adequate, group members were limited by how often they could present films due to the demand of the Market House's live production programming.

They needed a new home, and in 2001, Maiden Alley Cinema was born.

Since then, Paducah Film Society (Maiden Alley Cinema) has become one of the area's leading arts organizations, bringing the art of the film to a much wider audience. Regular weekly films, special film events, children's programs and a vintage film series provide an ever-changing and exciting embellishment to the growing cultural community of Paducah.

Get Involved
M.A.C. offers several ways for businesses and individuals to support the cause through membership, sponsorship, underwriting an event, theater rentals and more. On-screen advertising is a great way to reach a very diverse audience.

Companies are welcomed to rent the theatre for meetings and seminars. Landee is always available to brainstorm other partnerships.

For more info, email Landee Bryant or call her, 442.7723.
