Paducah Iron Mom Half Marathon: Run Like a Mother!
Hey mamas! Sign up for the very first Iron Mom Half Marathon! The action begins at 6:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, starting and finishing at the floodwall murals at Paducah’s riverfront! We wanna see you sweat!
The brawn and brains behind Paducah’s first Iron Mom Half Marathon belong to City of Paducah Risk Manager Cindy Medford.
“May is a beautiful time to showcase Paducah,” says Cindy, who started running half marathons two years ago. She’s done four to date. “I have met many Paducah moms at events like the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis. It just seems like the perfect time to have a longer running event in Paducah.”
Cindy brought the idea for a half marathon to City staff and to Amy Peal and Mark Vance of Rehab Associates, the race co-directors. They, of course, loved the idea.
The Paducah Iron Mom is a co-ed event offering a half marathon, half marathon relay and kids’ run. The half marathon starts at 6:30 a.m., with the kids’ one-mile run starting at 8 a.m. (for ages 12 and under). The race route starts and finishes at the floodwall murals at Paducah’s riverfront.
The route showcases beautiful Paducah including Jefferson Street, the Greenway Trail, Bob Noble Park, Stuart Nelson Park, downtown and LowerTown. To date, nearly 300 people have registered for this race. Lourdes Hospital is the title sponsor.
“Hopefully, there are people out there who will use the Paducah Iron Mom as a chance to prove to themselves they can do it,” Medford says, “I didn’t know I could run a half marathon until I reached my 40s. Now at 43, I wish I had given it a shot in my 20s or 30s.”
All proceeds from the Paducah Iron Mom will go to Family Service Society. Founded in 1927, Family Service Society provides immediate emergency relief to residents of Paducah and McCracken County.
If you’re interested in participating in the Paducah Iron Mom, sign up online or grab a registration form at all Rehab Associates’ locations, as well as goPerformance & FITNESS, inside the Paducah Regional Sports Plex.
Go, baby, go!
