Rotary Antique Quilt Show Begins Tuesday, April 26!
The 23rd Annual Paducah Rotary Club Quilt Show celebrates the wonders of spring with this year’s exhibit A Quilted Garden: The Beauty of Flowers & Gardens in Quiltmaking. Antique quilts from the private collection of curator Sue Reich will be on display now through Friday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Cherry Civic Center. Sue will lead gallery tours from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and at 1 p.m. Saturday.
As an official event of the AQS Quilt Show, the Rotary Quilt Show offers up not only antique quilts on display, but a merchant mall of vendors specializing in various quilting necessities. The 2011 merchant mall has both new and returning vendors including Cherrywood Fabrics, Cindy’s Antique Quilts, Country Heirlooms, Country Treasures, Handloom Batik, Hmong Pa Ndau Needleworks, Hoopla, Liberty Homestead, Nancy J’s, Old Made Quilts, Quarter Inch Publishing, SewBatik, Small Wonders, The Stencil Company, Traditions at the White Swan and Woodquilter.
The collection of floral and garden quilts will no doubt put a spring in your step. While you’re at the show, be sure to visit the Hoffman Challenge, located in the rear of the Civic Center. Novice and expert quilters from around the world take the Hoffman Challenge and make a small quilt using a specifically assigned Hoffman fabric. This year you’ll see challenge winning showpieces incorporating this fabric into their quilts. You will be overwhelmingly delighted by the creativity of the showpieces.

Proceeds from the Rotary Quilt Show benefit the Rotary Education Assistance Program (REAP), which provides educational scholarships to Paducah/McCracken County students who otherwise would be unable to attend college.
As the main REAP fundraiser, Paducah Rotarians are involved in every step of the quilt show. From planning to publicity, set up to take down and everywhere in between, these members prove “service above self” is more than a club motto. In fact, Rotarian and jewelry artist Jimi Gwinn, who has designed previous year’s collector pins, put his touch on this year’s pin. It’s based on the #5 quilt, Tulip Circle Quilt. Collector pins are $5 and are a must-buy item during the Rotary Quilt Show.
Not only will you find Rotarians volunteering at the Rotary Quilt Show, you’ll find them sponsoring it as well! The corporate sponsors include Regions Bank, USEC, Banterra Bank, US Bank and Computer Services Inc.
$5 admits one to the Rotary Show all week. For tix, call the Rotary Office, 270.442.3418, or purchase at the door.
