Pasta House Celebrity Bartending Raises Funds for St. Nicholas Family Clinic
Thanks to the support of their friends and family, the Get Together Gals (GTGs) broke all Celebrity Bartending records at the Pasta House weekly wine tasting.
Robyn Shapiro, Laura K and Mary Thorsby, co-creators of Paducah’s newest events planning agency, sold 42 wine tastings — up from the previous record of 26 — and then matched that amount in a monetary donation to the St. Nicholas Family Clinic in Paducah.
Plus, they wore out the kitchen staff, which prepared a record number of half-priced appetizers.
“The GTGs blew us away,” says Pasta House owner Bob Hoppmann. “Our kitchen was smokin’.”
Next up: Bear on the Air takes over the bar, 5-8 p.m., Thursday, August 20. Can he meet or beat the GTG’s performance?
“Bear — consider yourself served,” says Laura K. “We worked our tails off opening bottles, running around serving wine and washing glasses every five seconds because we kept running out. Bear better rest up.”
The evening works like this: Guests purchase five wine tickets for $5 — one ticket for each glass of wine they’d like to sample. From that, Bob donates meals for the clinic’s staff and volunteers. It’s up to the Celebrity Bartenders to help draw in the crowd. The bar is open for serving other drinks and half-priced appetizers, as well.
The weekly wine tastings have been a great way for Bob and wife Lisa to expand their already generous support of St. Nicholas, which provides free or very low-cost healthcare services to those in need. The clinic is extra special to Bob — St. Nicholas is his patron saint.
“We’re happy to be able to support St. Nicholas Clinic — the staff and volunteers there provide a wonderful and much-needed service to our community,” Bob says. “And we appreciate so many people enjoying our wine tastings each week. It’s all about community, and we certainly feel that sense of community when we can gather so many good people together.”
