Sanctuary Grand Opening: Friday, July 3

alt textPaducah’s underground music scene is rising to the surface thanks to a hot new venue. Super cute poet/performer Gabriel Camacho invites everyone to the grand opening of Sanctuary, Friday, July 3!

The show kicks off with DJUK (7 p.m.), followed by The Hi Fi Ninja (8 p.m.), The Union Suit (9 p.m.) and Roscoe (10 p.m.). $5 at the door — space is limited so arrive early!

And check it out: There’s a raffle for a $150 tattoo!

That’s because Sanctuary is co-located in the building with Bobby’s Inkslingers, 2083 Irvin Cobb Dr., where Bobby has shared his artistry with thousands of human canvases since January 2006. So how cool is it that now you can listen to the likes of Mike Capone, Powdered God and The Dishwashers all while adding another tat to your tail?

But the venue isn’t just for those with tricked-out and bejeweled body parts. Everyone is welcome at Sanctuary, including the inkless and un-pierced!

alt text“I just wanted a place where artists can connect with a wider audience, and where people can actually hear the music — original music,” Gabe says. “The bar scene is great, but original local music is usually limited to Open Mic nights. We wanted to offer another option to bands and their fans.”

And a rockin’ option it is. Sanctuary has a raised platform for performers, a DJ booth and a dance floor. At this point, there’s no alcohol at Sanctuary, and all ages are welcome. Space is limited, though, so if you’re comin’, get there early.

Sanctuary will offer shows on Friday and Saturday nights, and Gabe hopes to add special events during the week. The space is also available to nonprofit groups that might need it for fundraisers.

Gabe gives a shout out to Doe’s Eat Place owner Paul Signa for his support of Sanctuary, as well as to the performers and guests who’ve already been coming to Sanctuary’s pre-opening shows in the past several weeks.

“We’re off to a great start, and want everyone to come and check us out, and check out our MySpace page,” Gabe says. “This is our Sanctuary, this is our scene. What happens from here on is up to us.”
