The Culture Shop and Underground Apparel

alt textJ. $krilla is no stranger to Paducah’s arts and music scene. He operates the successful Director’s Cut Studio by day, and his Reel to Real Entertainment promotional company by night.

Now, this local entertainer and entrepreneur has a new venture to add to his growing list: The Culture Shop and Underground Apparel, located at 612 South 6th St.

J. $krilla likes to use grass-roots methods to bring exposure to the local underground arts and entertainment community in Paducah, and his new shop is no exception. The store is a great outlet for local artists, musicians, jewelers and others to showcase and promote their products locally.

alt textAs an artist himself, J. $krilla (find out more about him on iDate of the Week!) is well aware of the struggle artists can face when attempting to gain support from retailers. To that end, the shop features many local artists and musicians in the area such as Bawn in the Mash, Big Dirty Red, Mack C, Monopoly Wildkatz, Poetic Justus and J. $krilla’s own works, just to name a few.

He’s also got exclusive merchandise from the Roller Girls and the Paducah Writers Group, with many more to come, as well as beautiful custom designed jewelry by Wolf.

alt textIn addition to new products, consignment merchandise is also offered, with more than 85 percent of the merchandise being consigned by local vendors. New consignors are always welcome.

Rounding out the shop’s unique offerings are a wealth of African hand made products, including a one-of-a-kind collection of African sculptures and paintings, as well as a line of 100 percent all-natural soaps, facial cleansers, shea butter, essential oils and other made-by-hand African health and beauty products.

The “black soap,” named for its rich brown color and gifted to the author (thanks $krilla) receives Laura K’s stamp of four fabulous stars! It is amazing and works well for any skin type.

As the visionary of The Culture Shop, J. $krilla pledges to do as much as possible to help bridge our community and, he continues to search for other ways to provide like opportunities in the future.

“No matter if you are a home body, a hippie or just like hip-hop, the Culture Shop is sure to add a hint of culture to everyone,” he says.

And all of us could use a touch more culture, don’t you think?
