By Patience Renzulli

December 25, 2009

Best of 2009: iPet of the Week!

alt textEach week, Patience Renzulli shares heart-warming stories of amazing Paducah-area four-legged, feathered and finned friends. Top of the list? Maxwell Paxton! Here are your 2009 favorites!

Maxwell Paxton
“Mom, Dad, I/we have to go to the service/college/Europe/a job interview in East Jibippy/you name it for the weekend/a month/indefinitely. Could our pet stay with you?” Sound familiar? It sure does to the Mayor and Lucy Paxton. Meet 3-year-old dachshund mix Maxwell, their first grandpet!

alt textWoody the Wonder Dog
When you first meet Woody, you can’t help but think what a handsome fellow he is. His coat glistens and his huge dark brown eyes sing out his good humor and his great outlook on life. But then you look again, because something is missing.

alt textChessie Rhodes
Johanna Rhodes, of Etcetera Coffeehouse fame, was not planning on adding a fourth cat to her family of three elderly felines, but the homeless kitten who met Johanna on a LowerTown street wouldn’t take “no” for an answer

alt textSky Smith
Visit Mike Smith and you’ll see lots of great cars, Vespas and Indian motorcycles on the lot. But the one thing everyone wants to take home? Sky the Border Collie. Owner Dustin Smith shares her story.

alt textBaxter von Triptrap Luthy-Shull
Baxter von Triptrap Luthy-Shull saw the love of his life walk into the McCracken County Humane Society, and wasn’t about to let her get away.

alt textBuddy Jeanne Shapiro
Meet Buddy Jeanne Shapiro, a best friend in Golden Retriever clothing, named for Air Bud in the Disney movies and for owner Lily Shapiro’s middle name, Jeanne.

alt textZoe Bryant
Meet the lovely Zoe Bryant, a chocolate lab with a mile-wide lucky streak. Zoe was rescued by the fantastic director of Maiden Alley Cinema, the equally lovely Landee Bryant.

alt textSally Narozniak
After saying good-bye to her 13-year-old dachshund, Weezie, Carol Ann Narozniak wasn’t sure if she’d ever fill that void. Then she met Sally, a neglected and abused dachshund rescued by Project Hope, the wonderful no-kill animal shelter in Metropolis, Ill.
Carol Ann tells us her story.

alt textDixie Shirling-Ross
Dixie, a little black Pug, was already a swaggering senior when she waddled into the lives and hearts of Steve Shirling and Michael Ross.

alt textThe Barney and Buster Show
Cathy and Bill Bowman have had Basenjis since 1985. First there was Burt, then Betty and Binky. And now there are brothers Buster and Barney.
