Bonnie Gordon

Westminster Presbyterian Church not only has a new pastor — the congregation has a new dog! Meet Rev. Pamela Gordon (by way of Scotland, California and Ohio) and her yellow lab, Bonnie.

alt textRev. Gordon tells us her story:

My pet is Bonnie, aged 5, born April 17, 2005, in Grand Rapids, Ohio. (Yes, there is a Grand Rapids in Ohio). She is a pure bred yellow Labrador and her parents are Maggie and Lucky.

I met Bonnie when she was only 3 days old. I picked from a litter of puppies. Bonnie has a beautiful coat, now weighs about 90 pounds and smiles! Like most labs, she likes to swim and often goes with me to the river.

What I like about Bonnie the best is that she is full of fun but also knows when to be quiet. When I tell her, “Mama’s sick” or “Mama’s tired,” she understands and lies next to me.

The most challenging part of owning a dog is actually quite funny for me. I am a pastor, and I come second to the dog when I visit church members or bring her to the office! One time I was invited to a couple’s home for dinner because they wanted to meet the dog!

For the past five years, Bonnie has put up with her Mama being a pastor which brings lots of unpredictability. But, no matter what, she is always happy to see me when I come home. I love that my being single, she is waiting for me at home with a wagging tail and a stuffed toy in her mouth.

My best pet advice is that remember, your dog has been at home waiting for you to return. The first thing you should do is just drop everything, get down on the floor and play with your pet for a little while. You will reconnect with your pet and it breaks the boredom for him or her.
