Meet Buffy, the Land Between the Lakes Bison!
Here's a holiday gift that keeps giving! We read about this on Kim Kraemer’s excellent new blog, Kentucky Lake Views. Kim works for the Grand Rivers Tourism Commission and is always coming up with fun ways to promote the beautiful Land Between the Lakes (LBL).Kim let us know that anyone can "adopt" an LBL bison or elk for Christmas, Hanukah, a birthday or any reason! And when you adopt a real bison or elk, you get an awesome stuffed toy bison or elk to cuddle. Which might be oh, just a tad safer than trying to cuddle the real thing.
"A bison is a patriotic gift," Kim writes. "They are an icon of American history and have appeared on flags and coins. They are also the largest land animal in North America and big gifts make you look like a big spender."OK, first go to this awesome site and click on the bison picture and listen to that bad boy! How cool was that?
The holidays are the absolute worst time to bring a new pet into a home, as you may recall from this particular story.
But a stuffed bison? Could it get any better? I think not.
The cost for "adopting" a bison or elk is just $30. The proceeds are used to support environmental education, conservation activities and programs in the Elk-bison prairie of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.In return, you get:
- An adorable plush elk or bison tagged for the year you adopted it.
- An adoption certificate.
- Information about elk or bison, depending on which you adopted.
- A collage picture of elk or bison.
- An Elk-Bison prairie brochure and a token for a free admission to the prairie.
To order your very own bison or elk, email John Rufli, the executive director of Friends of LBL. And for more information on the Friends program, visit their Web site. And here’s another great idea: Take yourself, the family and friends to LBL and see the real bison and elk in their prairie in person, and then do your "adoption" while there. Adopt several for your friends. Who wouldn’t want their very own bison or elk! I mean!
Rock on LBL bison and elk!
