Rhinestone’s Rock ‘N Roll Hoochie Gucci Mama V GLS
Meet Gucci — a plus-size pooch with personality galore!
“Gucci” is a smooth coat Saint Bernard. At only five months old she weighs approximately 75 pounds. Her full AKC registered name is Rhinestone’s Rock ‘N Roll Hoochie Gucci Mama V GLS.
Proud owners Dave and Sue Estes brag that Gucci comes from two very strong lines of show champions.
“Gucci’s Grandfather, Dean, is currently the No. 6 Saint in the country,” explains Dave. “We’re going to enter the (show) ring in March, and this will be pretty exciting.”
Sue and Dave hadn’t given a lot of thought to showing before they got Gucci. “It would be wonderful to see that ‘CH’ (for Champion) in front of her name but regardless, she is our pet, and a major member of our family and that’s just the simple way we like it…the rest is frosting.”
Dave has some good advice for anyone thinking of adding a Saint Bernard to their family.
“Get the ‘cute’ out of the picture completely!” he warns. “Thoroughly read about this breed. It is of major importance to know every aspect of the Saint Bernard breed before ever thinking about becoming an owner. Large breed dogs like Saint Bernards do require extra everything, including extra study and consideration, before you even begin to go looking. This breed, along with all other breeds as well, does not deserve a ‘test run.’ The dog will pass the test every time. When there is failure, it is always the owner who fails due to lack of commitment and not taking responsibility to do everything required to be a genuine caring dog owner.”
When given a chance, Dave positively exudes delight when he’s talking about his huge pup.
“Hoochie Gucci Mama is very intelligent. Her timing throughout each day is so perfect she’ll not let you forget the routine for more than 10 minutes. When put to the test, she will come to your side and bark politely as a reminder that it is time to eat or go for exercise time or tell us it’s popcorn time.”
Gucci loves popcorn, but only gourmet brands!
“Gucci is true to the Saint Bernard nature,” says Dave. “She is a joy to spend time with and we are never out of her sight. Saints always stay close and watch over everything that goes on. Gucci loves everyone, especially children. Saints have such a gentle nature; they know to be careful around little tiny babies and helpful toward elderly folks.”
Surviving any dog’s puppyhood is a test of faith, and when the puppy is super-sized, oh Lordy!
“Training her to be obedient right now, while she’s young, is the biggest challenge,” Dave laughs. “She’s not as strong as she will get, but currently she’s strong as an ox. We work on the do’s and don’t’s everyday. We are a work in progress.”
When their first Saint Bernard, Gracie, passed away last June, both Sue and Dave said they would never have another. No other dog could ever replace their “Gracie girl.”
But now Gucci provides a giant dose of smiles and laughter to every day.
Rock on Gucci!
