| I’ll Be Waiting is the ultimate Kravitz ballad (playing now). Click the |
It Is Time for a Love Revolution is Kravitz’s eighth studio album, and a continuation of the funk-based hard rock style that has made him a favorite for more than 20 years.
If you’re like me, the first time you heard Kravitz was like a big slap in the face. You wouldn’t think that guitar, bass and drums played in 4/4 time could be all that innovative, but Kravitz’s style reminds me of putting Led Zeppelin, James Brown and Prince in a blender. What you get is a Lenny Kravitz smoothie.
It Is Time for a Love Revolution blows out the speakers from its first cut, Love Revolution. This hard-driving song sets the tone for an album that has the signature Kravitz sound and feel of wild guitar and uninhibited vocals. The first singles from Love Revolution are Bring It On and I’ll Be Waiting. Neither has charted so far, but I suspect that hard rock fans will support the former, while those who prefer ballads will like the latter.
For me, the most interesting song is the seventh cut, Will You Marry Me. This is pure funk, complete with the slap bass and raw guitar. You could almost picture the godfather of funk himself, George Clinton, sitting in on this one.
You may have heard that Kravitz has a Paducah connection. After a thorough investigation, I can tell you that it’s absolutely true.
Once again proving that any two people on Earth are separated by no more than six connections, Paducah is linked to Kravitz through his mother, (1) Roxie Roker.Roxie not only played Helen Willis on The Jeffersons, but is also a cousin of (2) Al Roker. Al is famous for his weather forecasts and is married to fellow television journalist (3) Deborah Roberts. Roberts held a controversial interview with professional wrestler (4) Mick Foley, who has wrestled with (5) “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Macho Man is the brother of small-time wrestler and former Paducah resident (6) “Leaping” Lanny Poffo.Based on my extensive research, Kravitz is practically a Paducahan. Since he’s one of us, we can all revel in the accomplishment that is It Is Time for a Love Revolution. I don’t expect Kravitz to show up for any local CD signing events, but then again….
