Bobbie Wrinkle is the Adult Programming and Events Coordinator at the McCracken County Public Library. She loves craft beer and live events of all types. She’s crazy about Thai food and did you know she can juggle? iMeet this wonderful lady who helps make McLib a hub of activity.
Welcome to iList Bobbie. Tell us about yourself...
I grew up in Southern Illinois. I remember my childhood as being pretty “Mayberry-ish”. We spent time riding bikes, enjoying the public pool, collecting Nancy Drew books, climbing trees, and generally having fun.
Tell us about your family...
I’m married and have two daughters, Stephanie Holland & Stacey Ellis.
We don’t currently have any pets, unless you count our two lively and fun grandkids, Emma & Emerson.
How did you find yourself at your present job? What led you to this career path...
Well, I was going through a life transition and a friend, who was Technical Services manager at the time, though I would be a good fit at the library. So …what began as a job morphed into a passion and led to a return to college where I completed a Library Science/English degree. I’m now the Adult Programming and Events Coordinator.
Was there a particular person who influenced your choice...
Honestly, not really. I listened to my instinct and followed my gut feelings. It’s been a great decision and I feel I’m truly where I should be.
So, what does a typical day in your life at McLib consist of...
My day has a rewarding balance of providing Information Services at a busy public desk, as well as office time planning, promoting and presenting all types of Adult Programming, and events.
I represent the library serving as Downtown Kiwanis member, Board Member for the Market House Museum and was just appointed to the Kentucky Humanities Board of Directors - an independent, non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
What's the most rewarding part of your job?
I enjoy researching a tough reference query and finding the answer. (trivia at it’s best) I also like providing programs that encourage people to think and talk about ethics, values, history, and other cultures. It’s very rewarding serving the informational, educational, and entertainment needs of our community.
What are the best personality traits of a librarian?
Librarianship is a people profession. A librarian should be able to think outside the box, have research skills, and patience - it can get crazy at a busy public library. I think a healthy dose of curiosity is very important. You also need to be tech-savvy, with a sense of humor (a biggie) and have a positive attitude toward serving our diverse community.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love beer! So, a favorite activity is to sample and relish craft beer. I like to attend festivals of all types. Hiking with family and friends, and enjoying all types of live music and participate in all kinds of unique Paducah happenings including Oktoberfest, the Lower Town Arts & Music Festival, PaBrewcah, Market House Theatre, Carson Center, Maiden Alley Cinema art food and more!
If you were a character from a book who would you be?
Easy Question -Scarlet O’Hara. She’s, passionate, independent & resilient. Considering the time period, she was way ahead of her time.
If you were a flower, which would you be and why?
A red tulip. A tulip is a classic flower of love and red is my favorite color!
Is there a special food you love, or a skill you have?
I’m crazy about Thai food, Caramel & Pepsi! Not many people know that I can juggle a bit - it amazes friends and family alike. Oh, and I can Double Dutch jump rope – crazy huh!
