The West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers Junior Derby League will host the region's first, 2-day, junior roller derby tournament.  Doors will open at 8am on Saturday, July 14th and admission is $15. A two day pass for July 14-15th is $20.

iPlayThe tournament titled “Clash of the Titans on Skates” involves four teams who will compete to raise their national ranking. The teams include “Darlings of Destruction” from Michigan, “Mad Divas Junior Derby” from North Carolina, “Raleigh Junior Rollers” from North Carolina and the “West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers” from Paducah.

Each team will receive three bouts so there will be a total of six, full-contact, bouts plus a lower level bout for younger kids from around the region.

“The tournament is a first for our league, but we are very excited about the opportunity that this event will bring to our skaters and skaters from around the region,” said Barbie “Barba-Fett” head coach of West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers Junior League.

What is roller derby?

Roller derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members, roller skating counter-clockwise around a track. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, most inside the United States

Game play consists of a series of short match-ups (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who wears a star on the helmet). The jammer scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to hinder the opposing jammer while assisting their own jammer - in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously.
